Use social media and Twitter to drive more people to your website. Social media is growing in importance all the time, so make sure you don’t miss out on all the opportunities it represents. Social media also helps with SEO or search engine optimization.
- Only tweet about things that interest you.
- There’s some debate about Twitter’s busiest time, but most evidence points to 10 am to 4 pm, so post your Tweets during these hours. This can change, of course, but if it does, I’ll try to keep you posted.
- Say something that is of interest and value to other people.
- Spread news about you or your business.
- Ask people for advice; You will be surprised how many helpful people are out there.
- Be subtle, but use your keywords whenever possible, for example in your one line bio.
- Tweet regularly, but not too often (a few times a day is good; a few times an hour can be a bit obsessive, IMO).
- If you say something controversial, people are more likely to respond, but if it’s just offensive, they won’t respond positively. A comment like “That Michael Jackson ‘ghost’ on TV is surely fake” would be a good example and should merit a response or two.
- Link to Twitter from other means, eg emails (in your log out note), websites, Facebook, etc.
- Run a survey; This doesn’t have to be anything fancy, just ask people for their opinions and keep a record.
- Look for people interested in the same thing as you and follow them; they can also follow you.
- Check who is following you and get in touch with them.
- Post news about vacancies in your business.
- Post news before and after an event.
- Point out helpful resources you can offer people (like this list, hopefully!)
- Have a conversation; Imagine that you are writing to a friend, hopefully soon you will be.
