When I started playing Tiger Woods 09 All Play I was very excited from the beginning. I had been playing Wii golf and I liked it. It got a bit boring playing the same course over and over again. Then I got the Tiger Woods game. I read a lot of reviews about the game and the biggest complaint I found was the way placement worked. I thought I could live with that and decided to play the game.
I created my own character, chose my clubs and went through the training course. The training went well, however when I got to the course and made the first green I couldn’t put it. Now this is the number one complaint on all review sites. My problem seemed different. When I pulled back on the controller to initiate the putt, the meter would move erratically up and down, making putting impossible. After hours of frustrating gameplay over two days, I wanted to bring the game back. I thought about it for a while and then tried to put my right hand on it. It worked! Even though my character lined up left-handed and hit the tee well on the fairway and lined up left-handed on the green, the game thought I was right-handed on the green.
While on the go, I hit the + key and looked at the options. Indeed, he showed me as right-handed. I switched to lefty and everything worked great. I had to do this until I started the Tiger Challenge. For some reason, once I started the challenges, it kept me left-handed.
The same thing happened to a friend of mine who came to play. He still has to select lefty when we play.
The second problem is in the club’s tuner. I wanted to tune my sticks and went to the stick tuner. I was cutting a bit and selected the Tigers Coach recommended solution. I started cutting more and more. Even though I was playing left-handed, the cut and fade were reversed. The club tuner is set up for right-handed playing. That left out the automatic solution for left-handed players. So I had to figure out what effect each change had on my swing.
Finding the solution to the placement error saved me from returning the game. I didn’t find this solution in any of the website reviews. The putting still isn’t the best, however it’s still a great game, even for lefties.
