The European fashion shows are over and the major designer brands have shown their latest collections, but what have been the hot topics this year and what is likely to be in store for high street menswear for the spring season? and summer of 2018?
Top designer brands like Armani Jeans, Billionaire Boys Club, Kenzo and Stone Island are stocking their shelves with the latest fashions right now, so here’s a look at what you can expect to be trending in men’s fashion today. spring and summer 2018. .
The 80s are back in style
The decade some would rather forget is going to be a big influence on menswear this year, and that means faded jeans with frayed cuffs, pastels and square-shouldered jackets will make a comeback. Believe it or not, there were a few wrinkles ironed out of jeans at fashion shows, too!
Shorts
Shorts aren’t every guy’s idea of the perfect formal wear, and it’s fair to say that opinion has always been divided on men wearing shorts anywhere outside of the gym or a sports field. However, this year sleek, fitted shorts were on display in many of the designer’s collections.
Vertical stripes will be large
Vertical stripes appeared on many of the runways this year, so look forward to adding some striped numbers to your wardrobe next season. In fact, stripes could be on just about anything this summer, including t-shirts, joggers, suits, and stylish short-sleeved shirts.
Tonal color matching
Many of the outfits worn on the runways combined tonal colors to great effect. In other words, complementary shades from head to toe. The first thing that comes out of the wardrobe will not be thrown away this year, because all the guys will be wearing matching outfits this summer.
Printed shirts
Graphic prints were also very evident at the shows, especially the prints on the T-shirts. Louis Viton specialized in tropical prints this year, while you can find some very striking graphics on T-shirts in stores right now from designer labels like Kenzo and Billionaire Boys Club.
Black and white are back
One of the great trends in men’s fashion for the SS18 season will be to wear all white. The opposite was also evident in the black-heavy European fashion shows as well. However, the two rarely mixed, so we won’t be going back to the two-tone look just yet!
Olives and green moss
And finally, to go with a host of camouflage patterns, there was a clear trend towards colors with a military twist, like khakis, beiges and moss greens. Fortunately, brands like Stone Island already have a good selection of coats, shirts and pants in these sorts of shades, so you won’t have any trouble following this particular SS18 menswear trend.
