Types of energy for a cleaner and greener world

There are multiple types of energy. The best known are kinetic and potential energy. Kinetic energy is simply energy in motion. An airplane flying, even a baseball moving through the air, are all forms of kinetic energy. Potential energy is stored energy, ready to be converted into kinetic energy. Imagine a roller coaster, as it moves along the tracks, it uses kinetics. Think of all the movement as you go up the hill until you reach the top and the roller coaster stops. Once stopped, all that kinetic energy is converted into potential energy. When your roller coaster moves again, the potential becomes kinetic. Along with kinetic and potential, there is mechanical energy, thermal energy, chemical energy, and gravitational energy. Mechanics are used for movement to occur. Thermal energy is created by heat like fire while chemical energy is created by chemical reactions only. Gravitational energy is the motion of the earth’s gravity. An example of this is a leaf falling from a tree, water falling from a waterfall, all these examples of gravitational energy.

There are many ways to create energy. Some of these forms are dams, windmills, and even solar panels. Using energy to power our cars, homes and cities is extremely greener than using oil. Using oil to meet our basic needs creates more smog, greenhouse gases, and is a factor in global warming. Dams, windmills and solar panels are green and clean ways to feed our earth without polluting it. As oil prices rise, the use of solar and renewable resources increases. Oil is a non-renewable element, once we use up all of our oil, we are done. Burning coal, wood, and other fuels creates smoke and dangerous chemicals that go into our atmosphere. With more chemicals in the air, we are at risk of infection or even more. Our earth is constantly being damaged by the use of oils, fossil fuels and coal. Global warming is melting our polar ice caps and causing the ocean to rise. Clean ways of feeding our cities are a giant step towards being a cleaner and more modern world. In fact, most cities in developing countries don’t even have power. They have to use coal and oil to feed their society, thus adding more pollution to the air. If we all used solar panels, windmills, and dams, we could banish the need for oil. Hopefully one day clean energy will be accessible to everyone.
